THE ISOLATION CHAMBER
Needed to allow equalisation and also for adjustment of the differential inputs to the system.
This is a picture of an isolation chamber, this fits at the back of the Kent water meter, on the cast base. 1) The entry points (these are mid-way on the other side of the two cylinders. The entry points would connect to the high and lower pressure outputs from the Ventura pipes. The two cylinders would be filled with a material such as paraffin which would drive the differential amplifier, shown behind the two isolation cylinders. The function being to isolate the mercury u tube of the differential amplifier from the ‘fresh’ water.
2) The two output pipes at the top that feed into the differential amplifier.
3) The valve in between the two outputs, this is to balance /calibrate the input to the differential amplifier. I.e to remove differential errors and offset errors. A similar arrangement is used with the electronic counterpart, the operational (differential) amplifier, except with an appropriate resistor. I.e this is a inherent error, with any differential amplifier.
