There is no isolation chambers with this arrangement. The two cylinders are part of the ‘u’ of the differential amplifier. Feed by the two pressures P1 and P2. The water pushes against the mercury. The major problem with this is ‘unwanted’ bodies could clog the instrument and make it ‘sticky’, in terms of one of the operators we interviewed. Sometimes the chambers where bought back to the Kent factory for re-furbishing. They where normally drained of mercury (mid way at the base is a pipe that sticks out, this is the drain point).
