Gallon meter. This is just an accumulator, it merely counts the revolutions of the integrator drum. As you can see, 6 digit reading and one unit = 1000
gallons! Would not like a water bill of this fellow, but it did service one of the two main pipes from a reservoir

Side view of the chain of wheels that make up the accumulator /counter. Also you can see the return spring for the drum and the engagement of the meter wheel with the drum wheel. Dependent on the height (driven by the differential pressure), determines how long the meter is on/off.

Clear picture of the arm that engages - dis-engages the counter to the drum.
The drum has two settings, on and off, this is done mechanically by a step.
Hence for one rotation (the fixed time period of the measurement) the amount accumulated depends upon position (height) up the drum, which is proportional to flow.
