SYSTEM & REQUIRMENTS

The Kent water meter comprises of
1) The Ventura pipe. This will have a bore size to cope with the pipe being measured and will have a throttle value.

2) Isolation chambers, the amplifier has mercury in it and so its important to isolate this from the fresh water being measured.

3) The differential amplifier, this is a u bend filled with mercury and the high pressure and low pressure outlets of the venturi pipe are connected to it. The displacement of the mercury thus relates to the difference between the pressures. The floats are connected to a wheel, like a wheel barometer.

4) The clock, this is required so when recording you are able to read time, to drive the recorder drum and the integrator for the volumetric side of measurement.

5) Flow recorder chart, used to record the flow on graph paper so analysis of demand, faults and or unauthorised usage. For instance a burst pipe has a known characteristic, high resistance then low, when it collapses and bursts.

6) The integrator, required to turn a flow output into a volumetric measurement, this is then accumulated on the gallons read out dial.
